Nihon Mura (Japanese Village)

“Japanese Village” is the name of this Japanese restaurant located at the Revenue House. Was told that this restaurant offers good and delicious sushi so decided to go and try it with Teddy. It did not disappoint!

“Irrashimase! ” (meaning ‘Welcome’ in Japanese), we were warmly greeted by the staff in the restaurant. Located on the 2nd floor of the Revenue House building at Novena, we entered an interesting Japanese village the minute we stepped in the restaurant.

A polite and kind waiter came by and gave us brief intro on how things work here at the village. Each customer was given a plastic cup to hold the items you wish to order. The items were written on “ice-cream” sticks with a code number and you choose one stick for one order you pick. Interesting concept! The items are displayed and beside each item, there is an ice-cream stick which you pick up if you wish to order. Except for the sushi which you can just pick up from the sushi belt and bring it back to your table, for all other dishes like the cooked food or live sashimi or teppanyaki items, you have to order it via the “ice-cream” stick style! The beverages were also quite interesting. There are many variety of ice-cream floats concoctions and fruit juices.

Our choice for the evening were lots of salmon sushi and orders of "ice-cream" sticks for the fried tofu, yakitori sticks and also a pot of salmon fish head!! It was a sumptuous and appetizing meal indeed. Look at what we had ! Yum yum... Best of all, the price was reasonable and food was good. So go check it out!

Nihon Mura is located at 55 Newton Road, #02-02 Revenue House, (5 mins walk from Novena MRT) Singapore.

Dome Café

On a shopping spree this time at Orchard Scotts Road with Teddy over the weekends. Feeling hungry and thirsty , we went to the Shaw House building on Scotts Road and stepped into the new Dome Café on Level 4. The décor in the café was just like the typical Dome Café at the other locations. Warm, modern contemporary style. This was our first visit to the Dome Café at Shaw House. Outside the cafe was a huge board featuring the Gourmet Pie. Naturally that became my choice and to complete the meal, I added on $3 for an additional Cream of Mushroom Soup. Teddy had his Café Latte.

The soup came first. How delicious it was! The soup was not too thick and just nice for me. Enough mushroom flavour. Yum.

Next came the gourmet pie! It was heavenly! The crust was crispy and blend in so well with the fillings served in a little soup mug. The fillings consist of chicken slices, carrot slices, and surprisingly, barley too! No wonder the filling was creamy and yet so sweet. It was because of the barley seeds. Secret recipe! Deliciously blended and simply heavenly for an afternoon delight…

Little wonder I was on seventh heaven then! Even without ice-creams. Yum yum. I was enticed by the Supervisor later to sign up as a Circle Member with the Dome Café for 3 years. Joining this will enable me to enjoy discounts, coffee vouchers and also getting a birthday treat of an entrée at the Café plus some other privileges. I will be able to have my heavenly Gourmet Pie yet again once of these days and am sure it won’t be too long!! Dome Café (Shaw House outlet) is located at 350 Orchard Road, Level 4 Isetan Scotts, Shaw House, Singapore 238868.

Fortun-ate Teahouse Dim Sum

The dim-sum by Fortun-ate Teahouse is delicious! Look at what we had.

Simple dim-sum like siew-mai and har-hou but they really whet your appetite. The best part is that we had our meal in between our shopping spree at the Wisma Atria shopping centre, Orchard Road.

Yes! The teahouse is just one of the tenants at the Food Republic located on the 5th level of Wisma Atria shopping centre. The revamped foodcourt, now managed by BreadTalk is the talk of the town. Huge selection of food set in a warm kampung backdrop. Dont think that food served at foodcourts are bad. The competitive foodcourt landscape these days benefit the customers where quality food is served at cheaper prices. Value for money - well considering that is if you are looking for cheaper alternatives amidst shopping areas! If you are on a shopping spree around Orchard Road next time and wonder what to eat, recommend for you to take a break to visit the Food Republic and have some dim sum at the Teahouse there. You may find other food gems there too e.g. Sergeant Chicken Rice. Fortun-ate Teahouse is located at Orchard Road, Level 5, Wisma Atria Shopping Centre, Singapore.
